If you’re wondering about a specific area for laser lipo, feel free to ask Dr. Collins during your consultation.
What Does Laser Liposuction Do?
Traditional liposuction begins with the administration of some form of anesthesia including local anesthesia, intravenous sedation, or general anesthesia. This is accompanied with the infusion of a saline solution into the area of the body where liposuction will be performed.
The solution contains medication to minimize pain and bleeding. Then, a small hollow tube attached to a vacuum is inserted through a small incision into the fat layer beneath the skin. Dr. Collins will move it around to break up the fat, which is then vacuumed out the body.
Laser assisted liposuction adds the energy of a medical laser to liquefy the fat before removal. With Slim Lipo, Dr. Collins won’t need to physically dislodge the fat from the surrounding tissue, allowing for a gentler surgical procedure. Also, the heat from the laser provides mild tissue tightening to enhance the results.
After Laser Liposuction: What Should I Expect?
The most common potential complications of laser liposuction include bruising, infection, minimal bleeding, numbness, skin burns and swelling. You’ll probably be sore and a little swollen for a few days following laser liposuction. Dr. Collins will provide painkillers to keep you comfortable, and may advise you to wear a special compression garment to speed healing. Everyone’s recovery is slightly different, but most people are able to return to work within a few days.
As you recover you’ll notice that your skin may begin to tighten as the new layers of skin form. This firming may continue for up to six months after your procedure. These techniques remove fat cells that are not recreated. If you should gain weight, it’s likely that fatty deposits will not expand in the areas where the procedure was performed.
