Correct Drooping, Sagging Eyelids with Blepharoplasty

Close up of eyes

Sagging or drooping eyelids develop over many years. Excess fat or subdermal tissue gets pulled down by gravity, and the skin itself begins to droop lower and lower as the excess mass increases.

This can occur on both the upper and lower lids. Droopy eyes make you look tired and worn out, and they can drastically change your appearance.

We recommend a blepharoplasty to correct this problem. This is a rather simple eyelid surgery that is cosmetic in nature. Remember that sagging eyelids can not only make you feel less attractive, they can also impair your eyesight, so correcting this problem is important.

The Eyelid Surgery Procedure

To correct sagging upper lids, we examine the eye closely and mark the area where the incision should be made. How we perform the procedure will be determined by the surgeon’s preference.

The excess skin, fat, and subdermal tissue is cut away. The incision is then closed.

After the Surgery

We inform our clients about what to do prior to and after the surgery. No special pre-treatment regimen is required, although we may ask the client to abstain from certain medications that could cause swelling or excess bleeding.

After the surgery, we may prescribe a medicated salve and/or eyedrops.

During the next one to two weeks following the surgery, care should be taken to avoid dusty environments or long-term exposure to direct sunlight. The eyes may have to be cleaned each day for a specified length of time following the treatment.

Other Corrective Procedures

Depending on the wishes of the client and the actual appearance of the eyes prior to surgery, we may recommend combining this treatment with other treatments.

Each individual is different, and the results of upper and lower eyelid surgery vary from one person to another.
