Since the late 1990s, there have been a number of minimally invasive products developed to offer quick and noticeable results without the need for surgery. BOTOX, which was the first approved for widespread use and continues to be the most popular cosmetic procedure in the world, has been joined by other injectable products such as JUVÉDERM® and Radiesse®.
Each of these products can often surpass the wrinkle-removing results offered by skin care regimens without the recovery time required for facelift surgery. But which product is best suited for your needs?
Injectables Are Fast, Easy, Effective
All of these products are injected into the face in order to target particular wrinkles. The injection takes about 15 minutes and requires no downtime; patients can have the procedure performed during a lunch break and return to work in the afternoon. The side effects, which include redness, bruising, or stinging, are common to all injections and should pass quickly.
The following areas can be targeted by BOTOX injections, which relax certain muscles and allow the skin to smooth out:
- Forehead lines
- Frown lines between the eyebrows
- Crow’s feet
- Lines between the upper lip and nose (perioral wrinkles)
- Wrinkles on the neck
- “Orange peel” chin
While best suited to treating smile lines and wrinkles below the mouth, facial fillers are often used for other creases and wrinkles on the face. Fillers are also usually suited for filling out sunken cheeks and under eye hollows and wrinkles. Beyond these common uses, however, each product has particular advantages.
JUVÉDERM uses hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the skin, and is especially good when targeting flat lips. A gel with small calcium microspheres, Radiesse revitalizes your skin’s collagen and is great for targeting deep lines around the nose and mouth, as well as bags under the eyes. Both of these injectables offer stunning results that can last up to a year.
Combining BOTOX and Facial Fillers
You can also pair dermal fillers like JUVÉDERM with BOTOX for a “liquid facelift,” as seen in the below before and after photos.
